About the artist
Jill Langberg
North Carolina landscape painter
Her first painting happened sitting on a rock at the edge of the sea on Vancouver Island. She had no canvas, so she painted on strips of fallen bark.
She painted with what the place gave her, and she has been painting ever since.
Jill Langberg has been painting for over 20 years. Inspired by nature’s beauty, she first attempted painting sitting on a rock in the middle of the sea on Vancouver Island. She was without canvas, so she painted with what the place gave her, using fallen strips of bark. She caught the bug and upon her return home to Atlanta, she spent many hours painting and using an assortment of mediums as she developed her personal style. Ultimately, she gravitated to painting with oils, watercolors and recently, a distinctive combination of pastels and oil.
Back home in Atlanta, she spent many hours with an easel and a range of mediums, slowly finding her own style. Over more than 20 years she settled on oils and watercolors, and more recently a distinctive pairing of pastel and oil that gives her work its soft, luminous texture.
Today Jill lives on the Highlands Plateau in the mountains of North Carolina, and she paints the natural places she finds across the state. Whether she is on a trail or looking out her studio window, she carries what she sees back to the easel: the haze on a far ridge, the light through the trees, the feeling of a place in a single moment.
Beauty is abundant.
Her work has been shown in galleries in Atlanta and is currently shown in Highlands and Brevard, North Carolina. Every painting from Long Mountain Studio is an original.

The name
Langberg means “long mountain.” Long Mountain Studio is named for her, and for the mountains she calls home.
